Which of these is your day?
Start with what the day has to include
Almost every decision here comes down to one question: do you have to see the Blue Cave? If the answer is yes, the choice is made: the 5 Island route is the only one that reaches Bisevo, and everything about it, including the 07:00 start in high summer, follows from the cave's light window. If the answer is no, better days are available at a civilised hour.
If you want the cave
The Blue Cave 5 Island Tour, group or private. Ten hours, six stops, two open-water crossings. The group version is €110 per person; the private version is €1,200 for the boat, which is the cheaper of the two once you are eleven or twelve people. Both leave at the same hour, because the cave does not care who chartered the boat.
If you want the Dalmatia people actually live in
The Brač, Hvar, Pakleni and Šolta day. Nine hours in sheltered channel water and the only route we run that shows you the working coast: a fishing harbour that has been one since the 16th century, a bluefin tuna farm at sea, a submarine tunnel the boat goes inside, and a bay we do not name. Then Hvar and the Pakleni Islands. €1,100 for the boat, up to twelve guests, which is €100 each at full capacity.
If you are short on time or travelling with small children
The Blue Lagoon half-day. Four and a half hours, shallow warm water children can stand up in, a UNESCO old town on the way back, and it runs morning or afternoon so it fits either side of a travel day. It is also the route that still runs on days when the open-sea crossings do not. €70 a seat, or €570 for the whole boat, which is the cheaper of the two from about nine people up.
If it is your group and nobody else's
Any of the five private charters. The price is for the boat rather than per head, so the arithmetic moves fast: at four people a €1,000 day is €250 each and a group seat is clearly cheaper; at twelve it is €83 each, less than the group ticket, on your own boat, with a route you helped write.

Which boat tour from Split is best?
The Blue Cave 5 Island tour for a first visit: it is the only route that reaches the cave on Biševo. If a 07:00 start does not suit you, the Blue Lagoon half-day leaves later, or a private charter runs on whatever schedule you set.
How much does a boat tour from Split cost?
Group seats are €70 to €110 per person depending on the route; private charters are €570 to €1,200 for the whole boat, up to 12 guests. The Blue Cave entrance fee of €18 to €24 per person is cash on the day and is not included by any operator.
Group tour or private charter?
Past about seven people a private charter is usually cheaper as well as better, because the price is for the boat rather than per head. Below six, a group seat is clearly better value unless timing matters more than money.
How long do the tours last?
The Blue Cave day is ten hours, the Brač, Hvar, Pakleni and Šolta private day nine, the full-day private Blue Lagoon eight, and the Blue Lagoon half-day four and a half (shared or private).
How far in advance should I book?
Three to four weeks for July and August, longer for a Saturday. One to two weeks is usually enough in May, June and September. Private charters go first because there are fewer of them.
